The Royal Military College of Australia is responsible for training cadets for service as officers in the Australian Army. A site for the institution was chosen in the Australian Capital Territory. Originally a sheep station, the property was called Duntroon - the name by which the College is popularly known. It was opened on 27 June 1911, Governor-General Lord Dudley announced that the College had been granted the title 'Royal'. Over the years, Duntroon has established a rich history. The coin's reverse portrays a series of figures symbolising the roles and challenges undertaken by officer cadets at Duntroon. The design includes a coloured representation of the Royal Military College badge incorporating the motto DOCTRINAVIM PROMOVET (Learning promotes strength).
