In 2010, the life and work of Fred Hollows is celebrated. A skilled opthalmologist, he migrated from New Zealand in 1965 and immediately set about improving aboriginal health services. Hollows expaned his reach internationally in developing countries, performing cataract surgery using an implanted intraocular lens as seen on the coin design and teaching local technicians to do the same.
