2017 50c Uncirculated Coin-The Battle of Bullecourt, The Western Front 1917-2017. This coin is the third release of the six-coin Western Front Series. On 11 April 1917, Australian troops of the 4th Division carried out an unsuccessful attack on Germany's formidable Hindenburg Line near the village of Bullecourt in France. They suffered more than 3000 casualties, including 1170 lost as prisoners of war. A further attack was made on 3 May by troops of the 2nd Division. Bitter fighting continued over the two weeks, resulting in 7482 casualties and reinforcements being drawn in from the 1st and 5th Dvisions. By the time Bullecourt was captured, British attention was shifting north into Belgium, where in coming months the Australians would suffer their greatest losses of war. Maximum Mintage 15,000.
